During our visit to Rome we took an overnight trip to Pompeii. How awesome it was to see the quaint little City, experience some of the cuisine and ultimately visit the ruins of the ancient City. It is difficult to even imagine a City that was sophisticated and vibrant one moment and covered in ash the next. To see the ruins and walk on streets laid by ancient Romans was a thrill that is hard to describe. In places one can still see ruts made by their chariots. Seeing the ancient ruins of Europe was for me, a dream come true. What a wonderful experience. While I may forget insignificant details of this trip, I will never forget the feelings of wonder and awe, and the beauty of the scenery.

We spent a bit of time in the Town and had a wonderful dinner. They also had a lovely rather large bakery but the employees weren’t very friendly.
Today’s City of Pompeii has a beautiful old Church.

Chariot ruts clearly visible

And there is that problematic mountain

Imagine the patience!

A large mosaic that I believe was once a wall
Come up of the materials used on the mosaic previously shown.

Incredible preservation.

According to Dan, a great deal of the ruins have been recovered since his visit of 60 years ago.

I love the colors and again am in awe of their lasting beauty.
It was a long day and our i-watches recorded many steps. The weather turned warm but we were able to find a cool spot to rest a bit and remove ourselves from the hustle of other tourists. All in all a very satisfying day and then back to Rome.

This was the second time we stopped at this fantastic bakery where we planned to purchase treats to take with us on our train trip back to Rome but alas, I couldn’t make up my mind and in the end bought nothing.

Goodness, how did I not buy several of these beauties?
