How amazing to see this magnificent structure built so very long ago! I appreciated the intricate work and the antiquity of the building but perhaps the most delightful things we saw were the bits of pottery used for everyday life. That anything can exist for so many years is amazing. That along with the engineering feats of the early Romans is truly a wonder. And then to think such an advanced civilization was lost for nearly a thousand years defies the imagination. Visiting the Coliseum was a grand experiene, but later we would be awe stuck by our visit to Pompeii. This page though is dedicated to the coliseum so those are the photos I will showcase below.
